As well as being directly on the Southern Upland Way, the Lands End to John O’Groats Cycle route passes through Wanlockhead.  This coupled with the fact that Wanlockhead is the highest village in Scotland it is no surprise that the area surrounding the village offers stunning walks, cycles, and drives.

The ore-field around Wanlockhead is the most important lead-zinc and mineral deposit in Scotland.  The award-winning Scottish Lead Mining Museum is only minutes from the hostel where you can experience a real lead mine, learn about the minerals found in the area and pan for gold!
